Haunted Chillingham Castle
Built in the 12th Century as stronghold,
Chillingham became a fully fortified castle in the 14th Century. The family of
the Earls Grey have continuously owned and inhabited the castle since the 1200s.
The current owners of Chillingham are Sir Humphrey and the Honourable Lady
Wakefield. Lady Wakefield is descended from the family of the Earls Grey. After
a short period of neglect the owners are in the process of returning the castle
to its former glory. The castle is host to a number of ghosts. The most famous is the "blue boy" who's cries of agony can be heard at midnight. Another ghost, Lady Mary Berkeley, searches incessantly for her husband, who ran off with her sister. Visitors to the castle often hear the rustle of her as she hurries up and down turret stairs in her vain search. After dark, the castle courtyard echoes to the chill sound of long dead guards as the carry out their eternal duty. The sound of marching and armoury is frequently to be heard.
Following our recent ghost hunt at Chillingham Castle we now have a wide collection of photos. Watch this space we will publish many more of them soon.
